I know a lot of people have been raving about Mad Men, but I probably won't get around to watching it until much later. Much like I'm only watching (and enjoying!) season one of The Wire now.
I have to say, Mad Men doesn't immediately pique my interest though.
I love Mad Men and The Wire, they're both excellent. If you like The Wire's style of storytelling, Mad Men is done in a very similar production style. In terms of tone & content... if you've seen The Sopranos, I'd say that The Sopranos is maybe kind of half-way between the two of them? The Sopranos being a pretty even mix of crime drama & personal drama, while The Wire is almost all crime and Mad Men is almost all personal. But I think all three shows are incredibly excellent.
After you've gone through The Wire, I'd say definitely give Mad Men a shot. I used to think that The Wire was my all-time favourite show, but Mad Men is very very close to surpassing it.
I agree, with this little analysis although have yet to fully watch the Wire it is next on the list. I think the best part about all three (including the very little i've seen of the wire) is the visual tone. What makes Sopranos and Mad Men so good is how they're visually composed - perfection!!
